Just finished my first real tattoo, on my thigh, it was so much fun after it stopped being terrifying, yay I did a thing. It’s kinda wonky in spots but I’m getting the hang of it.

Aww thank you! I do a sketch with pencil, lightly outline with pen, erase the pencil, then go over the lines and build them up and add details. If you do thicker lines before you erase your pencil sketch the ink tends to smear. I use micron pens for my line art (.005, 01 and 03 mostly) these can smear when you color over them (the most frustrating thing ever) so it’s best to let them dry for a day before adding marker, I’ve also been experimenting with doing a really light sketch outline with the .005, colouring it in, them doing the thick linart on top, that’s been working pretty well. I use whatever alcohol based markers I can get my hands on, they’re all more or less the same. Primacolors are a good one to start with because theyre easy to find and a bit less pricy. Water based markers suck, try to avoid them-they lay color down unevenly, smear like the devil, and fade horribly when exposed to sunlight. For paper, I really like Strathmore’s Visual Journals in vellum, they’re really affordable for the quality and are spiral bound which I love because they lay flat and they have nice thick covers. Any heavy weight bristol/vellum paper that isn’t too rough is good though.
I hope that’s helpful, sorry it took my so long to get back to you, and feel free to let my know if you have more questions! Now draw draw draw! :)
